Saturday, July 22. Join your local Land Trust for a kayak trip down the North Fork of the Feather River from downtown Chester to the Lake Almanor causeway. Experience the beautiful riparian habitat of this Audubon designated Important Bird Area (IBA) the towering cottonwood trees, magnificent views of Lassen Peak and the Caribou wilderness, an abundance of birds and the beauty of the Olsen Barn Meadow.  This kayak trip is not for beginning boater; there are a number of river obstacles and a swift current, canoes are not allowed. The float will include  a flatwater paddle from the mouth of the river to the take-out spot on Highway 36. The Barn Party: After the float we will rendezvous at the historic Olsen Barn for a delicious BBQ and the boot-stompin'-toe-tappin' tunes of local bluegrass band Rickety Bridge.  There are 20 spots available for the North Fork float and a total of 40 spots for the BBQ lunch.  Just want to come for lunch and music? BBQ Lunch and Music-- 1:30pm meet at the Olsen Barn Meadow (please park off Highway 36 in the mowed parking area and walk to the barn).

What to bring: water, sun protection, snacks, PFD (if kayaking), camp chairs, an adventerous spirit.
