What a great way to enjoy fall colors and FRLT's Heart K Ranch!

Enjoy a scenic mountain bike ride on a portion of the historic stage coach route between Genesee and Reno.  This moderate, dirt road ride is an out and back totalling 15 miles.  The ride is appropriate for most fitness levels as there are two turn around options.

The Notson Bridge Ride starts at the Heart K Ranch at 3,700 feet and climbs to a high point of 5,300 feet before a final short descent to the beautiful bridge surrounded by colorful aspens, cottonwoods and willows.

For those who do not wish to do much climbing, the first portion of the ride winds through Red Clover Creek Ranch for 1.3 miles of paved country road.  At 1.3 miles the road becomes a well maintained dirt road and climbs slightly for another 1.3 miles to the Drum Bridge.

Red Clover Creek
The view of Red Clover Creek is well worth the effort and it is good idea to bring a camera. Another .3 miles up the road is Oak Flat (elevation 4000 feet).  Oak Flat is a great stopping point for a snack before heading back down to Genesee Valley with group 1 or fueling up for the second stage of the ride.

From Oak Flat, the dirt road continues to be well maintained but the angle kicks up, climbing 1300 feet over the next 3.3 miles.  This section of the ride offers expansive views and plenty of shade.

After reaching the high point of the climb at 6.3 miles from the Heart K, the road descends 1 mile to the Notson Bridge. The bridge is another great place to get pictures of fall color and take a rest. Needless to say, the ride back to the valley and the Heart K is a long and enjoyable downhill.
